The New York Mets have started to pick it up recently, winning three straight games and improving to a record of 67–58 entering Wednesday after stumbling to begin the second half of the season.
Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Phillies have extended their NL East lead to six games amid the Mets’ struggles, and New York now faces an uphill battle in its quest for a division title.
Notably, typically reliable outfielder Brandon Nimmo has seen a dip in offensive production, which contributed mightily to the team’s disappointment during the month of August.
Over 27 games since the All-Star break, the 32-year-old veteran has batted .233 with a .680 OPS and just eight extra-base hits during the stretch.
Brandon Nimmo Injury Update
During Wednesday’s matchup against the Washington Nationals, Nimmo left the game early and was replaced by teammate Starling Marte. Moments later, the Mets confirmed that the left-handed slugger had exited with an injury.
The team wrote, “Brandon Nimmo was removed from tonight’s game with neck stiffness”.

Nimmo Key to Mets’ Potential Postseason Run
Although Nimmo has been struggling in August, he’s displayed consistent production over a much larger sample size, indicating he’s destined to bounce back.
Throughout his ten-year career with the Mets, Nimmo has posted a .260 batting average, .365 on-base percentage, and .803 OPS, while accumulating 934 hits and 130 home runs.
He’s often included in discussions with New York’s three other superstars—Francisco Lindor, Pete Alonso, and Juan Soto—as an irreplaceable part of the team’s lineup.
His availability will be critical to the team’s playoff hopes, and the severity of the injury will be worth monitoring.
