It probably hasn’t escaped your attention that Taylor Swift is currently plotting her return to the music scene.
Last week, the Grammy winner made a much-hyped appearance on her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s podcast New Heights, where she announced that her next album The Life Of A Showgirl will be arriving in October.
But one offhand comment from the I Knew You Were Trouble singer has also led some Swifties to speculate that she’s also eyeing a return to live performing, as the one-year anniversary since her mammoth Eras Tour came to an end approaches.
What did Taylor Swift say during her New Heights interview that’s generated so much speculation?
Asked what she’s been up to during her downtime, Taylor told Travis and his brother Jason Kelce that she’s become something of a baking aficionado.
“Sourdough has taken over my life in a huge way,” she said. “I’m talking about bread 60% of the time now and the rest of my time I’m either thinking of it or making it.”
Now, this throwaway comment might seem innocent enough, right? But don’t forget just how many Easter eggs Taylor has been known to bury in the past, with some diehard fans thinking that she might be hinting at an upcoming appearance at the Super Bowl.
Hang on – why has Taylor Swift talking about sourdough led people to think she’s performing at the Super Bowl?
A few reasons, actually.
First of all, next year the Super Bowl will be taking place at the San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The squad’s mascot? Oh, just a little gold miner named Sourdough Sam.
Only fuelling the rumours is the fact that Taylor used the figure “60%” to refer to her love of sourdough, with the 2026 Super Bowl being the 60th time the tournament has taken place.
It’s also been pointed out that Taylor kept repeating the number “47” at random intervals during her New Heights interview, while on her epic Eras Tour jaunt, the Levi’s Stadium was the 47th stop…

Of course, Taylor is no stranger to the Super Bowl, appearing at the event for the last two years to support her boyfriend Travis, who plays for the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.
Kendrick Lamar and Usher were the Halftime Show performers at the last two Super Bowls.
Interestingly, both of these acts were confirmed as headliners the September before their respective Super Bowls, meaning that if Taylor has been booked, it might not be long until the news is confirmed.
