Florio criticized the timing and transparency of the league’s actions, pointing out that waiting until the public outrage cools, or until the legal process plays out, has historically been the league’s default play. He believes that strategy is again in motion here.

For the Chiefs, the uncertainty around Rice adds another wrinkle to an offseason that’s already packed with expectations. He’s poised to play a significant role if and when he returns-assuming the suspension doesn’t derail too much of his season. With a dynamic offense built around Patrick Mahomes and a system that thrives on timing and chemistry, how long Rice is gone could matter more than people think.
