Was Andy Reid Too Hard on Chiefs Rookie — His “Birthday” Party Cost Him His Spot Immediately After Sneaking Out to Party During Team Practice

In a shocking turn of events at Kansas City Chiefs training camp, rookie wide receiver Jalen Morris has been cut from the team less than 24 hours after reportedly sneaking out past curfew to attend a private party in downtown St. Joseph.

Sources close to the situation say Morris, a sixth-round pick out of Auburn, left the team’s dorms late Tuesday night and was spotted at a high-profile gathering hosted by a local influencer. Photos surfaced online just hours later, allegedly showing Morris posing with fans and holding drinks — a clear violation of the team’s strict camp code of conduct.

By Wednesday morning, Morris was nowhere to be seen at walkthroughs. A few hours later, the Chiefs released an official statement:

“We have waived WR Jalen Morris for conduct detrimental to the team. We hold all players — rookies and veterans alike — to the highest standards on and off the field.”

The decision came as a surprise to some, but insiders say Head Coach Andy Reid was “furious” when notified. “This camp is about commitment and focus,” one team source said. “If you can’t follow basic rules in August, how can we trust you in January?”

Morris had been showing flashes of promise in early practices, drawing praise for his speed and route running. But in the NFL, talent alone often isn’t enough — discipline matters.

While some veterans privately questioned the team’s decision to cut ties so quickly, others applauded the move as a necessary message to the rest of the locker room.

As for Morris, he has yet to issue a public statement. His agent told reporters Wednesday afternoon that the young receiver is “deeply disappointed” and “hopes for another opportunity soon.”

But for now, the Chiefs have made it clear: play hard, stay focused — or pack your bags.
