Breaking: Cowboys insider makes brutal call on 2024 draft pick after injury setback

If this happens, this spells disaster.

The Dallas Cowboys have much more problems on their hands than just the obvious. They’re dealing with a shortage at secondary, which prompted Jerry Jones to sign cornerbacks Robert Rochell and Christian Matthew in training camp.

None of the secondary players made an impact at all against Los Angeles in their preseason debut, with the exception of undrafted rookie Zion Childress. Cowboys insider Bryan Broaddus of 105.3 The Fan thinks the team could move in a different direction with one of their cornerbacks, which would make the secondary situation look even more chaotic.

After Voch Lombardi mentioned that Caelen Carson needs a preseason game to go well for him as soon as possible, Broaddus came out of left field to say that Carson may not even get a chance anymore for one simple reason: he’s not on the field enough.

“This is two years now where (Carson) has missed significant time. If the (Cowboys) said, you know what, we’re going to move on, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

Carson looks to be a deep hole to not make the 53-man Cowboys roster

This is one of the unfair things about playing in the NFL. If you don’t show up to work and you’re already on the roster bubble, chances are you’ll get the axe. Even though it’s not the fault of any player to get injured, it’s still a tough part of the business.

Carson is an interesting case because Dallas is already depleted at cornerback. The 2024 fifth-round pick suffered a hyperextended knee a few weeks ago. Last season, Carson injured his shoulder, which halted his rookie progress, and he eventually went on injured reserve in November. He underwent surgery on his shoulder early in the offseason, but returned in time for camp.

The Cowboys probably can’t afford to cut Carson, but that could change if Jerry Jones and company go shopping for a veteran. Stephon Gilmore is an obvious potential target, but only if the money is right, of course.

The Joneses have a lot to solve in the secondary, and the group’s uninspiring showing against the Rams hammered that home.

If Carson struggles to make it back from this injury in a timely manner, it is definitely possible that Dallas decides to move on.
