Kansas City’s wide receiver was back at work, join by a defensive end with local roots.
As the Kansas City Chiefs walked on to their practice field at St. Joseph’s Missouri Western State University for their 15th training camp session on Monday morning, they were joined by wide receiver Rashee Rice, who had missed two days with a groin injury.
Cornerback Kristian Fulton — who had returned to practice on Thursday, but only as a limited participant — took another step forward, taking part in Monday’s team drills.
Before practice began, the team signed defensive end Nate Matlack to the roster. Matlack played his high school ball at Olathe East before spending three years at Kansas State and his final collegiate season at Pitt. He participated in the team’s rookie minicamp in June.
Six players were held out of practice. Tight end Jake Briningstool (hamstring) missed his 11th day of practice. Wide receiver Hollywood Brown (ankle) has now accumulated seven days out. After practice, Reid said that Brown has started running — and is “close” to returning.
T Ethan Driskell (appendectomy) missed his first day. So did cornerback Jaylen Watson (concussion), defensive end Janarius Robinson (toe/foot fracture) and safety Deon Bush (Achilles). Watson, Robinson and Bush all sustained those injuries in Saturday’s 20-17 preseason loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
Monday’s session was a light 10-10-10 practice. No additional injuries were observed.
