The Boston Red Sox finished the 2024 season with a record of 81 wins and 81 losses, which was good enough for a third-place finish in the American League East.

After winning the World Series in 2018, the Red Sox have missed the postseason in five of the last six seasons, and they have missed the playoffs for three consecutive years.

The Red Sox will attempt to take the division back from the Yankees in 2025, and they will look to the free-agent class to get some help with this goal.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Red Sox are talking to starting pitchers Blake Snell of the San Francisco Giants and Max Fried of the Atlanta Braves.

Snell won the Cy Young Award in 2023 with the San Diego Padres, and he played his first season with the Giants in 2024.

After battling some injuries throughout the season, Snell started 20 games and held a 3.12 ERA with 145 strikeouts in 104.0 innings pitched.

Fried came into the league in 2017 with the Braves and has played all eight seasons of his career with the organization.

In 2024, Fried started 29 games and held a record of 11 wins and 10 losses with a 3.25 ERA and 166 strikeouts in 174.1 innings pitched.

Although the Red Sox have not won the AL East since 2018, the addition of either of these free agents would give them a boost in 2025.

The Red Sox are also reportedly in talks with Yankees star outfielder Juan Soto as they explore all of their options in the free agent class.

With plenty of big-name free agents, this offseason should be an exciting one for the Red Sox.
