It’s been quite the offseason for Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic — and for all the right reasons.
Doncic’s drastic physical transformation has become one of the biggest storylines in the basketball world. After appearing on the cover of Men’s Health Magazine, where he detailed his new diet and workout regimen, the buzz around him only intensified.
Now, after recently agreeing to a three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers, Doncic has returned to Slovenia to begin practicing with the national team ahead of EuroBasket 2025. And according to reports, the Slovenian media has revealed just how much weight he’s shed over the last year.
Doncic has reportedly lost roughly 31 pounds, and he seems more motivated than ever to silence critics who have long questioned his conditioning and ability to handle the grind of an 82-game season — and the postseason gauntlet that follows.
Despite the criticism, Luka Doncic has remained one of the best basketball players in the world. He led the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals in 2024 and, prior to an injury-plagued 2025 season, had earned five consecutive First Team All-NBA selections.
Now preparing for EuroBasket 2025 with Slovenia, Doncic’s longtime national teammate Klemen Prepelic shared insight into the 26-year-old star’s transformation—both physically and mentally.
“I noticed it already at the first training,” Prepelic said. “He talks much more than in the past. He’s embracing the challenge of being the face of a franchise—both in the NBA and here. His words carry weight.”
Prepelic added, “You can already see signs of the new Luka. It’s probably something the Lakers expect of him as well. He’s the leader now. His voice counts the most.”
