During Saturday’s training camp press conference, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice shared his thoughts on beginning the 2025 season potentially on suspension for the 2024 offseason car accident in Dallas.
“My legal team is handling that. All I can do is focus on what I can control right now, and that’s me doing what I do best right here on the field.” said Rice who commented on lessons learned from the incident, “just how valuable any opportunity is, and any moment is this right here that’s being able to be on the field and be able to be coached by coach (Andy) Reid and have such a great quarterback (Patrick Mahomes). It’s kind of, honestly, a gift. It’s a blessing. So honestly, to take advantage of opportunities like this.”
A Dallas County judge sentenced Rice to five years’ probation and 30 days of jail time, which can be served during those five years, for his role in a multi-car crash during the 2024 offseason. Disciplinary actions from the league will likely follow the sentencing, but he will continue to train with the team.
“This is what I do. This is my job. This is what I love to do,” said Rice, “So I mean, even when I’m not able to be out there, my team will be working as hard as I can so I can be back out there with them as soon as possible.”
Rice has taken accountability for the incident and encouraged others to seek out mentors like he has to overcome issues. He’s focused on being a better person and growing from the situation.
