The Kansas City Chiefs are facing a challenging start to their 2025 training camp due to injuries to several key wide receivers. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown suffered an ankle injury during practice and had to be carted off the field. While head coach Andy Reid expressed optimism that the injury might not be serious, the team continues to monitor Brown’s condition closely.
Rookie receiver Xavier Worthy also exited practice early after sustaining a head injury and has entered concussion protocol. This is a significant concern for the Chiefs, given Worthy’s speed and playmaking abilities, which the team had hoped to utilize heavily this season. Additionally, Skyy Moore injured his hamstring during the same practice session, further depleting the team’s receiving depth.
Compounding these injury issues, Rashee Rice is dealing with off-field legal problems stemming from a 2024 multi-car crash, which resulted in a 30-day jail sentence and five years of probation. His availability for the upcoming season remains uncertain, and he may face an NFL suspension, putting additional pressure on the Chiefs’ receiving corps.
In response to these challenges, the Chiefs signed wide receiver Kwamie Lassiter II to help bolster depth at the position. Lassiter, son of former NFL safety Kwamie Lassiter, has previous NFL experience with the Cincinnati Bengals and has recently played in the UFL.
With the season opener approaching, the Chiefs are hopeful that their injured receivers will recover in time to contribute. However, the current situation highlights the importance of roster depth and flexibility as the team navigates a difficult start to training camp.
