The Los Angeles Dodgers aren’t getting Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran.
As first reported by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Philadelphia Phillies are acquiring Duran from the Minnesota Twins.
Duran was named as a top trade target for the Dodgers. However, the Phillies have now won the sweepstakes.
Duran, 27, could be the best reliever dealt at this year’s deadline. The right-hander has a 2.01 ERA across 49.1 innings this season. He’s a shutdown reliever who will shore up the back of the Phillies bullpen, and make them an even bigger threat in the National League.
As first reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies are sending back two top prospects — catcher Eduardo Tait and right-handed pitcher Mick Abel — to Minnesota for Duran. Tait is the team’s No. 4 prospect, while Abel is their No. 6 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. Both are MLB Top 100 prospects.
As for the Dodgers, they’ll now have to look elsewhere for bullpen help. The Dodgers are nearly certain to add at least one bullpen piece ahead of Thursday’s deadline. The Dodgers have been linked to other Twins pitchers, as well as a handful of other relievers on the market.
