For anyone who’s not a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, the past seven years have probably been miserable. The Chiefs have reached the AFC Championship Game in each of the last seven years and gone to the Super Bowl five times.
Those same haters likely loved watching K.C. get blown out in this year’s Super Bowl with a big reason for that being the lack of protection for Patrick Mahomes in the big game. Not having a good enough offensive line has cost the Chiefs two Super Bowl titles and Brett Veach wasn’t playing around this offseason when it came to fixing that.
If you’re following along with the Chiefs’ training camp, you’re probably well-aware of the fact that first-round rookie Josh Simmons is looking like anything but a rookie. The haters are not going to be fond of this but they’ll be even angrier when they hear what NFL insider Ian Rapoport had to say about Simmons.
While attending Chiefs training camp, Rapoport poured the praise on not just Simmons but the Chiefs for being able to land the guy so late into the first round.
“[Simmons] is as athletic as they said … He has been healthy. He has been great. And it looks like this is the kind of guy who could be their left tackle for the next 12 years and that is an unbelievable outcome late in the first round.”
Josh Simmons is already looking like the kind of draft steal teams dream about
Oh man. Could you imagine if Simmons does end up being as good as advertised? Could you imagine how angry Chiefs haters would be if they managed to find their left tackle of the future with the final pick in the first round? Practically every team had a shot at taking Simmons and they all passed on him because they were worried about his injury but that doesn’t seem to be an issue so far.
Now, of course, it’s one thing to look great in training camp. It’s another to do it during the actual regular season, especially as a rookie. If the Chiefs did manage to find the guy who can reliably protect Patrick Mahomes’ blindside for the rest of his career and did so with the 32nd pick, be prepared for the haters to be even angrier.
