Former Chiefs Draft Bust Carted Off From Training Camp Practice With New Team

While Kansas City Chiefs fans are dialed in to training camp and watching the team’s current crop of rookies push to make an immediate impact, they also won’t be quick to forget about past disappointments. It always stings when a high draft pick lets your team down, but they’ll often find no shortage of teams willing to try to unlock their potential.

One former Chiefs second-round pick who recently signed with a new team this offseason (his second since leaving KC) has already suffered a significant injury

Former Chiefs DE Tanoh Kpassagnon Off to Rough Start with New Team

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, former Chiefs defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon sustained what looked to be a hand/wrist injury in his very firsthe Chicago Bears, leading to his being carted off the field.

Some Chiefs fans may not remember Kpassagnon’s time in Kansas City. The 31-year-old was a second-round selection in the 2017 draft and didn’t amount to much while with the franchise. During four seasons with the team, he recorded 75 tackles, seven sacks and five pass defenses.

Furthermore, he only had one good season according to Pro Football Focus. In Kpassagnon’s second season, he recorded a pass rush grade of 66.7, a run defense grade of 75.4 and an overall grade of 71.4.

Shockingly, his pass rush grade was high despite him not recording a single sack. This was likely due to the fact he tallied one quarterback hit, 10 QB hurries and 11 QB pressures in 115 snaps. Kpassagnon’s production meant Kansas City increased his playing time, which didn’t end well.

Upon his release after the 2020 season, Kpassagnon signed with the New Orleans Saints. In New Orleans, he saw slightly more success, recording 66 tackles, 9.5 sacks and four pass defenses. Moreover, in three of those seasons, he recorded a pass rush grade of 60.0 or higher, according to PFF.

Chicago added Kpassagnon at the start if their training camp to add more defensive line depth. While a hand injury may not be huge, his road to making the Bears roster in 2025 is long. Though Chicago could make space for him if he played well, they also have young talent they would like to see develop.

Nevertheless, if Kpassagnon wants to continue his career, he will need to not miss a ton of time. In spite of the fact that he didn’t contribute much in Kansas City, Chiefs Kingdom wishes Kpassagnon the best in continuing his NFL career.
