Bad Dodgers memories resurface with meaningless Yankees-Nationals trade

On Saturday night, the New York Yankees and Washington Nationals pulled off a trade that will be a mere footnote when this year’s deadline is all said and done. And somehow, it rocked the world of Los Angeles Dodgers fans.

The Nats traded infielder Amed Rosario to the Yankees and received Clayton Beeter and Browm Martinez (yes, Browm). Remember a couple of those names?

Rosario was acquired by the Dodgers two times — in 2023 and 2024 — but barely made an impact and did not participate in either of those playoff runs. Beeter was a former Dodgers top prospect who was traded to New York in exchange for Joey Gallo back in 2022. Gallo is no longer playing baseball in MLB, and the Yankees gave up on Beeter, as you can see with this Rosario trade (he’s a free agent after this season).

To go down the list, all of Rosario, Beeter and Gallo aren’t viewed favorably among LA fans. Rosario batted .257 with a .708 OPS and 92 OPS+ in his 53 games with the team. Beeter, a former second-round draft pick, was awful in the Dodgers’ system (5.75 ERA at Double-A when he was traded) before he turned it around in New York. Gallo batted .162 in his 44 games with the Dodgers and the team couldn’t wait to get rid of him.

Looking at the Dodgers farm system and roster at this very moment, it’s hard to believe any of these players were once employed and well-known among the fanbase. For starters, Beeter is one of the few top prospect pitchers the Dodgers haven’t been able to unlock (or at least get some usage out of) in recent years. Someone like Rosario wouldn’t sniff a bench spot on this 2025 roster, and we’re not really sure why he was even acquired in 2024. Taking a risk on a player of Gallo’s volatility feels like it couldn’t be further from the front office’s current philosophy.

The Yankees got some use out of Beeter in their minor league system after transitioning him to a reliever, but he only appeared in five MLB games for them. Rosario has only seen action in 46 games this year and hasn’t been a productive player since 2022. Gallo is currently trying to transition to a pitcher.

Whatever this witchcraft is, get it away from us. Let’s get a few Dodgers blockbusters completed so we can get this out of our minds.
