Billy Donovan Agrees to Contract Extension With Bulls

Report: Bulls' Billy Donovan Was Contacted by Kentucky After John Calipari's Exit

The Chicago Bulls and head coach Billy Donovan have agreed to a multiyear contract extension, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported. The financial terms and length of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Donovan has compiled a 195-205 record during his five seasons as head coach in Chicago, making a lone playoff appearance in 2022. The Bulls finished this past season with a 39-43 record before the Miami Heat knocked them out of the Eastern Conference play-in tournament in April. It marked the third consecutive year Miami ended Chicago’s season in the play-in.

Prior to his time in Chicago, Donovan spent five years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, guiding the franchise to a 243-157 record and five consecutive playoff appearances. Before that tenure, he spent 19 seasons at the University of Florida and won back-to-back NCAA Men’s Basketball titles in 2006 and 2007.

Donovan, 60, will be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in September.
