The Chicago Bulls and their 22-year-old guard Josh Giddey have yet to reach a contract extension this summer, after Giddey entered restricted free agency following the expiration of his rookie deal.

Giddey may be growing frustrated, as NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the young guard is expecting a significant payday, especially when comparing his situation to that of his peers from the same draft class.
“Giddey looks at his draft class — he looks at Jalen Suggs, he looks at Jalen Johnson — and thinks, ‘I should be getting the same kind of deal those guys got,’” Stein said during his appearance on CHGO Sports.
Although Stein noted that Giddey isn’t currently expected to force a deal, there simply aren’t many suitors available.
“But for now, he just doesn’t have the external suitor to force the Bulls’ hand,” he added.
Stein also described the current restricted free agency environment as “awful” due to the present salary cap conditions. He emphasized the Bulls’ leverage in the situation, saying they are “not used to operating from a position of power” and must “get this right because of what they gave up to get Josh Giddey.”

Giddey, 22, arrived in Chicago last season via the Alex Caruso trade and quickly made an impact. He averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game, while shooting 47% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc.
In his first season with the Bulls, Giddey joined elite company by recording over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 500 assists — a feat previously accomplished in a Bulls uniform only by Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.
