Brentford have reportedly been caught off guard by Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to begin the new season with Dominic Solanke and Richarlison as their primary strikers, despite recent transfer speculation.
Over the past two weeks, several reports shared by Spurs Web indicated that Tottenham were preparing to launch a move for Yoane Wissa. It was believed discussions with Brentford were imminent, but no formal approach has been made.
Recently, Newcastle United have also shown interest in Wissa, who Brentford value at around £50 million.
According to GiveMeSport, Spurs have now unexpectedly opted not to pursue the 28-year-old forward. While talks with Brentford were anticipated—especially given Thomas Frank’s admiration for Wissa—Tottenham seem content to move forward with Solanke and Richarlison leading the line.
This shift in plans has given Newcastle a clearer path to sign the former Lorient striker, especially after their failed bid for Hugo Ekitike. The Magpies are now intensifying their efforts to secure Wissa’s signature, with Spurs showing no intention of competing for the deal.
Sources at Brentford reportedly expected Tottenham to come forward and are surprised by their lack of action. Wissa himself was said to be interested in reuniting with Thomas Frank at Spurs, but that now appears unlikely.
Meanwhile, some reports suggest Tottenham may instead turn their attention to Nice forward Evann Guessand as an alternative.
