TROY, Ala. – Troy right-handed pitcher Colby Frieda signed an undrafted free agent contract with the New York Mets on Thursday.
Frieda, a senior from St. John’s, Fla., spent one season in the Cardinal & White after transferring from Kentucky, making a team-leading 25 appearances out of the bullpen in 2025 while posting a 3-2 record with four saves.
“Colby coming to Troy and improving enough to sign with the Mets is such a tribute to his determination,” head coach Skylar Meade said. “He wanted to put himself into this position, and he earned it. The Mets will be thrilled with him as he starts his journey very soon.”
In 45.1 innings, Frieda struck out 53 hitters to just 19 walks and held his opponents to a .224 batting average, ranking ninth in the Sun Belt Conference with 10.52 strikeouts per nine innings (min. 40 IP).
Frieda is the fifth member of the 2025 Trojans headed to professional baseball. He joins Kansas City Royals eighth-rounder Brooks Bryan, Chicago Cubs 15th-rounder Noah Edders, Athletics 18th-rounder Jay Dill and Minnesota Twins free agent Adam Falinski.
Troy’s five players headed to the next level are its most since 2007, when the Trojans also had three draft picks and two free agent signings.
