The Justyn Ross experiment ended a few days ago when the Kansas City Chiefs dismissed him from the 90-man roster at his request. Now a new developmental wide receiver has taken his place with the official signing of Hal Presley.
The Chiefs signed Presley on Monday as the team eases into its annual training camp in St. Joseph.
Presley’s signing is the latest domino to fall between various NFL teams trying out fringe wideouts before the 2025 season begins.
The Chiefs have found themselves another developmental wide receiver before training camp starts.
Presley was only available because the Buffalo Bills decided they would rather take a look at Kristian Wilkerson earlier this offseason. Wilkerson was let go by the Las Vegas Raiders shortly before that, because they wanted to make room for Ketron Jackson Jr., and Key’Shawn Smith. Thus, the domino effect.
A former Baylor product, Presley is a 6’2, 210 lb. receiver who had 31 catches for 429 yards and 3 touchdowns last season for the Bears. He went undrafted in the spring and caught on with the Bills shortly thereafter.

The Chiefs already have a fairly crowded picture in terms of developmental wide receivers hoping to land a spot on the practice squad.
Former New England Patriots draft pick Tyquan Thornton has generated buzz in offseason training activities and should be a hyped-up preseason player to watch coming into training camp. Jason Brownlee is new to the Chiefs after turning heads with the New York Jets in previous preseason campaigns.
The Chiefs also have other undrafted players hoping to make the same sort of impact after going unselected. Elijhah Badger of Florida, Mac Delana of Fresno State, and Jimmy Holiday of Louisiana Tech all remain on the roster after rookie minicamp.
Presley’s presence on the roster was made possible by Ross’s request to be let go from the team. Ross asked for his release after three years with the Chiefs, having garnered scant playing time in 12 total games with 6 receptions to show for it.
Ross has yet to catch on with a new team, but the Chiefs have now moved on in the hopes of finding a hidden gem worth developing over time.
