Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak would prefer to join Arsenal over Liverpool this summer, Arsenal insider AFCAMDEN has claimed.
The Sweden international’s representatives have reportedly made contact with the Gunners in recent weeks to explore a potential move, although it remains unlikely that Newcastle will consider selling him this window.
The Magpies are aiming to retain Isak amid growing interest from both Premier League and Saudi clubs, and have no plans to part ways, despite the striker being reportedly open to a departure.
Arsenal are now close to signing Sporting Lisbon ace Viktor Gyokeres, which would rule out a move for Isak for the time being.
Alexander Isak Prefers Move to Arsenal
Despite long-standing interest from Liverpool
Alexander Isak in action for Newcastle United.
According to AFCAMDEN, Isak remains unlikely to leave Newcastle this summer, despite Arsenal being his preferred destination over Liverpool:
Isak, praised as ‘the best striker in the world’, is coming off a career-best Premier League campaign, having netted 23 goals and provided six assists in 34 appearances for Newcastle.
The Sweden international finished as the league’s second-highest goalscorer last season, only behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who netted 29 times.
Arsenal are now closing in on Gyokeres’ arrival from Sporting, with the club nearing an agreement for a deal worth an initial £55m, with a further £7.4m in add-ons.
Gyokeres has already agreed a five-year contract with the Gunners and remains on course to join, despite a reported late push from Manchester United.
