According to multiple sources, the Mets will be recalling Francisco Alvarez ahead of Monday’s game against the Angels. Alvarez, who was demoted on June 22nd after an extended slump following his return from a broken hamade bone, has been tearing it up for Triple-A Syracuse since his return, hitting 11 home runs in 19 games.
Over 23 total games for Syracuse this season (including rehab games earlier in the year), Alvarez is hitting .268/.366/.732. The power returned for Alvarez as soon as he was demoted, but the last week has seen his bad really take off with seven home runs in his last six games.
This is a stark difference from what Alvarez did in his major league at-bats this season, hitting .236/.319/.333 with three home runs.
Presumably, catcher Hayden Senger will be the corresponding player being sent to Syracuse. Since being recalled on June 22, in 20 plate appearances, Senger has just three hits (all singles), one walk, and six strikeouts.
Alvarez looks to help bolster the bottom third of the Mets’ lineup, which has been a blackhole for much of the season. With Alvarez, Sean Manaea, Brooks Raley, and Kodai Senga back in the fold, the team is starting to more closely resemble the club that was expected at the start of the season.
