Week 11 of the 2024 NFL campaign is highlighted by a huge matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, with superstar quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen headlining the action.
While this game is incredibly important from a standings perspective, it could also play a huge role in the MVP race.
Neither Mahomes (69.5 completion percentage, 2,208 passing yards, 13 total touchdowns) or Allen (63.5 completion percentage, 2,281 passing yards, 21 total touchdowns) are having the best statistical seasons of their career, but they have led their teams to 9-0 and 8-2 starts, respectively.
That has set the stage for this incredibly important Week 11 clash, as the Bills will look to disrupt the Chiefs undefeated start to the season.
But beyond that, ESPN analyst Ryan Clark believes that if Allen can beat Mahomes, his MVP candidacy would receive a major boost. “If (Josh Allen) plays extremely well in this game with some of the people he has out, and he beats Patrick Mahomes, I believe there will be a huge cry to put Josh Allen in the MVP conversation,” Clark said on Get Up. ”
Maybe number two after Lamar Jackson, because people just feel like he deserves one because he’s been one of the top QBs for so many years.” .@Realrclark25 believes there will be a “huge cry” for Josh Allen to be in the MVP conversation if he beats Patrick Mahomes on Sunday pic.twitter.com/4LLBefnXHH — Get Up (@GetUpESPN) November 15, 2024 While Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens is widely believed to be leading the way in the MVP race, Mahomes and Allen are hanging around.
Mahomes is really in the discussion because of how much the Chiefs are winning, while Allen has been incredibly efficient, despite not always having a ton of weapons at his disposal.
That will be the case once again against Kansas City, as rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman and tight end Dalton Kincaid have already been ruled out for the game. If Allen can play his best football, though, the Bills will have a great shot at coming out on top. The MVP subplot that will be lingering around this huge matchup is worth keeping tabs on, especially considering how Mahomes beat Jackson back in Week 1.
Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 4:25 P.M. EST on Sunday, Nov. 17th.
