Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been sentenced to 30 days in jail in connection with his involvement in a 2024 car crash in Dallas prior to last season, according to multiple reports.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that a Dallas County judge sentenced Rice, 25, to 30 days in jail while also sentencing him to five years probation.

The outlet reported that the Chiefs wide receiver is expected to face a “multi-game suspension” from the NFL over the 2024 incident, which involved six vehicles and left several people injured. The Dallas Morning News also reported on Rice’s sentence.

A team spokesperson for the Chiefs told PEOPLE that they are “aware” of the reports, but declined to comment. “With it being an ongoing legal matter we won’t have a comment at this time.”

An attorney for Rice did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding his sentencing.

PEOPLE reported last April that Rice left the scene “without stopping to determine if anyone needed medical help or providing their information,” according to Dallas police.

A Lamborghini and a Corvette — one driven by Rice and the second driven by another person — were speeding in the left-hand lane down the North Central Expressway in Dallas when “the drivers lost control and the Lamborghini traveled onto the shoulder and hit the center median wall, causing a chain reaction collision involving four other vehicles,” police said at the time.

Rice later turned himself in to police as his attorney told PEOPLE the NFL wide receiver was “cooperating” with authorities.

“I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities,” Rice later said in a statement on social media days later. “I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s accident.”

At the time, Dallas police said at least two other drivers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, while two additional drivers were treated at the scene by Dallas Fire Rescue, also for minor injuries.

Rice is well-connected to the Dallas area, having played high school football 30 miles northwest of the city in North Richland Hills before suiting up for Southern Methodist University — also located in Dallas — during college. He was later drafted by the Chiefs during the 2023 NFL Draft and helped Kansas City win its second-straight Super Bowl during his rookie season in 2024.
