The Cavaliers, Mavericks, and Knicks are hoping LeBron James gets bought out by the Lakers, but he hasn’t requested a trade or discussed a buyout and is expected to stay in Los Angeles for now.
Several teams — including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, and New York Knicks — are reportedly still hoping LeBron James gets bought out by the Los Angeles Lakers before next season, according to Anthony Irwin of ClutchPoints.
This offseason, at least four teams have reached out to Klutch Sports and agent Rich Paul about potentially trading for James.
However, there has been little communication with the Lakers themselves.
Most teams are reportedly waiting to see if James becomes available through a buyout.
One major obstacle to a trade is James’ salary — he’s set to make $52.6 million next season — which makes it difficult for contending teams like the Cavs, Mavs, and Knicks to put together a viable deal.
Still, the odds of a buyout are considered very low.
According to Dan Woike and Joe Vardon of The Athletic, LeBron has not requested a trade or engaged in buyout discussions with the Lakers. He is expected to remain in Los Angeles and report to training camp this fall.
If the Lakers struggle during the season, James could reconsider and either request a trade or explore a buyout.
He also holds a no-trade clause, giving him full control over any potential move.
