Taylor Swift’s father has undergone a major heart surgery in a terrifying health scare.
Scott, 73, underwent a complicated quintuple bypass surgery on his heart after a doctor noticed something during a routine checkup.
Thankfully, the dad of two has made a speedy recovery, and source close to Taylor has since told Daily Mail that Scott’s recovery has so far been ‘fantastic.’
Throughout his recovery from surgery, both Swift, and her younger brother, Austin, were by his side during the scary time. His wife, Andrea, who he has been married to for 37 years, was also there to support him.
Swift’s rep told the outlet that his bypass surgery was not the result of a heart attack.
The surgery is quite a major one, as it requires doctors to restore blood flow to certain areas of the heart.
The procedure involves creating a bypass for more blood to flow to the heart, which is done by harvesting a blood vessel from a different part of the body, per Cleveland Clinic.
It can be a complicated procedure and the surgery may last for several hours.
Once leaving the hospital, many complete a cardiac rehabilitation program, which helps to rebuild your strength.
Per Cleveland Clinic, 72 percent of those who undergo this surgery are men, the average age being 66.
But luckily, those who undergo the surgery have a strong recovery rate, and many report having alleviated symptoms afterwards.
Swift has always been close to her parents, especially her father, as he’s often seen at her concerts and even at football games to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
In a 2019 interview with Elle Magazine, the Cruel Summer revealed that both her parents have battled cancer in the past.
She revealed the news when she penned a story, ’30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30,’ for the magazine.
Swift explained that she had ‘learned how to handle serious illness’ in her family.
‘Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again,’ she wrote at the time.
