Al Horford to Warriors Receives Update After Steph Curry’s Message

Boston Celtics center Al Horford (42)

Al Horford has not joined the Golden State Warriors, but the Boston Celtics center has fans among their players. Steph Curry praised Horford while talking with The Athletic’s Anthony Slater last Thursday, though he understandably kept it brief because the two still aren’t technically teammates.

“He’s a champion, great player. When…if, when all that stuff happens, I’ll talk about it,” Curry said about Horford while talking to Slater.

Rumors have linked Horford to the Warriors, but free agency started on June 30, and he remains unsigned. Golden State makes sense, as they lost Kevon Looney, their longest-tenured player on the roster outside of Curry and Draymond Green, so they need a new starting center.

Marc Stein revealed the latest on Horford during his appearance on 95.7’s The Game’s Willard & Dibs. In short, he believes Horford will be a Warrior, and he may not be the only one.

“My expectation is that one way or the other, the Warriors are going to end up with both Horford and Melton on their roster,” Stein said. “[And] they still have interest in Bradley Beal.”

At 39 years old, Horford is one of the NBA’s oldest players and would join one of the NBA’s oldest teams in Golden State if he signs there. Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler are all 35 or older.

Boston conserved Horford for the playoffs by resting him on back-to-backs for the last three seasons. If he signs with Golden State, the team will probably have to do the same as he approaches 40.
