Clark Hunt’s FC Dallas, other MLS and NFL clubs pledge relief for Texas floods

Clark Hunt: The Inspirational Success Story Of NFL's Kansas City Chiefs Founder - CEO Today

The death toll from the floods in central Texas now stands at 120. Almost a week after the flash flooding began on July 4, more than 170 others are still missing.

Kansas City Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt holds the same titles with FC Dallas of the MLS. He has now announced his franchise — along with Austin FC, Houston Dynamo FC and the MLS — are each committing $500,000 for recovery and relief efforts. According to NFL.com, the NFL Foundation, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings are also committing $500,000 each.

“Our family is devastated by the tragedy in Central Texas,” Hunt said in an official statement. “Our hearts go out to those grieving – in particular, to the parents who lost children, those who lost family members, and the far-too-many who have lost friends, neighbors, and loved ones.”

Hunt’s family is among those suffering a loss. According to the Dallas Morning News, his 9-year-old cousin Janie Hunt was among at least 27 young people who lost their lives at Camp Mystic on the Guadalupe River.

“This has shaken our community to its core,” added Hunt. “Today, along with our MLS partners, my brother and I are humbled to support those directly assisting the victims of this unimaginable tragedy. In the wake of such sadness, we are awed by the hearts of our fellow Texans, and we are grateful for the true community leaders – in boats, helicopters, or trucks filled with food – who are showing up for their neighbors in need.”

Individual contributions may be made through the Texas Hill Country Community Foundation.
