Liverpool is set to once again break the British transfer record with a £214m double signing, contingent on the sale of Nunez.
According to reports, Liverpool is prepared to surpass the British transfer record this summer as they target two strikers.
The Reds have already broken the British transfer record this summer by acquiring Florian Wirtz for £116m from Bayer Leverkusen.
Currently, Liverpool is focused on recouping funds, with Darwin Nunez being one of the players they aim to sell in the summer transfer window.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Serie A club Napoli has shown significant interest in Nunez, with Liverpool seeking a minimum of ‘between 65 and 70 million Euros [£55-60m]’ as a starting point for negotiations.
The Reds are also exploring potential replacements for Nunez once he is sold, with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak still being linked to Anfield despite his hefty £150m price tag.
Journalist Graeme Bailey recently mentioned to Rousing The Kop that “there’s a chink of light” for Liverpool this summer, provided Isak does not sign a new contract with Newcastle.
Bailey stated: “Isak has always been in play. I’m confident with my sources on him and what we’re hearing.
“Newcastle is prepared to break their wage structure for a new deal for him, but Liverpool is closely monitoring the discussions, and it’s going to reach a critical point very soon. There’s not much information coming from Newcastle’s side, so we await the outcome.
“Liverpool is undeterred; we’re not entirely sure why that is, but they seem to believe there’s a glimmer of hope.
“As long as this new contract remains unsigned, that will continue to be the case.
Clearly, Liverpool has already set a new British record, and any offer would need to be comparable to lure Isak away from Newcastle, but it is certainly feasible,” Bailey asserts.
“I believe a deal could be struck at £120-130m, but that would depend on him rejecting a contract offer. Liverpool is still actively pursuing this.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has now stated that Liverpool is interested not only in signing Isak but also in Napoli striker Osimhen, who has a release clause of €75m (£64m) in his contract until mid-July.
Di Marzio shared with Ace Odds: “I believe Liverpool is targeting both Alexander Isak and Victor Osimhen.
“Regarding Isak, it hinges on Newcastle, as the player has spoken with the coach and the club at the end of the season expressing his desire to leave, but currently, Newcastle is not receptive to that.
“Thus, it relies on the discussions between Newcastle and Isak, and whether the club will consider putting him on the market.
Newcastle is a formidable club and aims to retain their top players for the upcoming season, including Sandro Tonali.
“Alexander Isak is keen to explore other possibilities because at the conclusion of this season, he received assurances from the club and the coach, but Newcastle has yet to take any serious action on that front.”
