Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs lost Super Bowl 59 and failed to pull off the coveted three-peat. That apparently means that the team’s run at the top of the NFL mountain is done for good and it’s time to write the Chiefs off entirely. Clearly that’s worked out well for people in the past (I’m being sarcastic here in case you couldn’t tell).
Well, on a recent appearance on the Up & Adams Show, Mahomes had a message to those people who think his Chiefs are cooked.
“I feel like I’ve had to sit back and just listen to people talk and talk and I’m like, ‘Let’s just play football and just handle it all out there’,” Mahomes told Kay Adams. “I don’t really wanna talk about it. I just want to go out and show who we are as the Kansas City Chiefs.”
Patrick Mahomes is tired of people thinking the Chiefs’ run is over
Have people forgotten that this isn’t the first Super Bowl that Mahomes and the Chiefs have lost? Have they forgotten what happened to Kansas City following that loss? Sure, they had the “down” year where they failed to reach the Super Bowl but the next two years they went to the big game and won it all. They’ve been to three of the four Super Bowls following that loss to Tampa Bay so who’s to think this loss won’t motivate him and the Chiefs in the same way?
People are quick to bury teams when they’re at the top because they’re tired of seeing them succeed. Chiefs fans hoped the same thing would happen to the Patriots when they were dominating for as long as they were but the fact of the matter is, until another team comes in and knocks the Chiefs off the their throne, they’re still the team to beat in the AFC.
Mahomes is simply letting people know here that his guys plan to settle all of this “The Chiefs are done” talk on the field. When Mahomes says something like this, he tends to be correct more often than not. Let’s hope that’s the case here once again.
