Mohammed Kudus six-word verdict shows why he can be Thomas Frank's perfect Tottenham transfer - Gentle Soccer

Tottenham Hotspur supporters have always demanded a brand of football that is fast, fluid, and exciting to watch. In their eyes, attacking flair and creativity aren’t just luxuries—they’re part of the club’s DNA. And if Spurs do manage to secure the signing of West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus this summer, they may well have a player capable of reigniting that sense of joy and spectacle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The north London club has reportedly set its sights on the Ghanaian international, who is known for his dazzling footwork, explosive dribbling, and fearless attacking instincts. However, their pursuit won’t be straightforward. Tottenham are believed to have tabled a £50 million bid for Kudus, only for West Ham to reject the offer. The Hammers, who signed him from Ajax for £38 million just last summer, are understandably holding out for a higher fee, especially given Kudus’ rapid rise and influence since arriving in the Premier League.

If Spurs are serious about bringing Kudus to the white half of north London, they’ll need to return with an improved offer—one that reflects his current market value and importance to West Ham. Should a deal be struck, Kudus would become the first player to move from West Ham to Tottenham since 2011.

Kudus made an immediate impact in his debut season at the London Stadium. The versatile attacker registered 14 goals and 9 assists across all competitions in his first year in English football—an impressive haul that showcased his ability to adapt quickly to the pace and physicality of the Premier League. Although his output dipped slightly in the following campaign, his talent remains unquestionable. New Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank, known for his success in developing and maximizing the potential of dynamic attacking players at Brentford, could be exactly the mentor Kudus needs to rediscover his best form and push even further.

Tottenham fans will be hoping that under Frank’s leadership, the team can recapture their identity as entertainers—something Kudus has always embraced as part of his own footballing philosophy. Upon joining West Ham from Ajax in 2023, he made his intentions clear.

“I like to entertain the fans because I believe that’s what football is all about,” Kudus said in his first interview with the club. “My dribbling, my strength, my finishing—those are all parts of my game, and I want to use them to bring excitement to the supporters. I’m here to do my best and give them something to cheer about.”

Indeed, dribbling has been a hallmark of Kudus’ game from a young age. He honed his unique style at his childhood club in Ghana, Strong Tower, where he was given creative freedom to play with flair and instinct. That environment helped shape his confidence and identity as a footballer.

“It started when I was very young,” Kudus recalled. “At Strong Tower, the coach just let us play with freedom. It wasn’t about results—it was about passion and enjoyment. He told me, ‘Any time you get the ball, take on as many players as you can.’ That stayed with me. I think having a low center of gravity helped too. I can turn quickly, and I’ve worked hard in the gym to strengthen that part of my game. It’s what makes my dribbling so effective.”

Beyond his dribbling prowess, Kudus is a highly versatile attacker who could offer Tottenham valuable tactical flexibility. While he often played on the wing for West Ham, he has the ability to operate centrally as a No. 10, drop deeper into midfield, or even lead the line as a false nine. His adaptability could be a huge asset for a Tottenham side looking to become more unpredictable and dynamic in the final third.

When asked about his best position, Kudus was characteristically team-focused, saying: “Everyone knows I can play in different positions. I’ve played across the front line and in midfield, but I think most of my effective moments come from central areas. That said, I’ll always play wherever the coach needs me. The team comes first, and I’ll give 100% in any role. Most of my best performances have come from attacking midfield or just behind the striker.”

If Tottenham manage to get this deal over the line, it could be a major statement of intent. Kudus not only brings raw ability and flair, but also a deep understanding of what it means to excite a crowd—something Spurs fans have long craved. In him, they wouldn’t just be getting a technically gifted player, but a natural entertainer who thrives on the big stage.

For now, it remains to be seen whether Tottenham will return with an improved offer. But if they do, and if Kudus makes the switch across London, he could become the spark that lights up a new era of thrilling football in N17.
