Breaking: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Gets Historic Honor

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs have one of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL right now in Patrick Mahomes, but how does he stack up to the greatest quarterbacks in the entire history of the league?

That’s a great question, and boy, would it be fun to see Mahomes and Tom Brady go up against each other, although Mahomes is certainly in a different generation than Brady.

It’s a holiday weekend, and that means that the folks who cover the NFL and sports, including myself, get to go off and do some random stories.

Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports took the time to publish a piece on Thursday, July 3, ranking the best quarterbacks in the NFL of all time.

Of course, Brady is No. 1. “It’s hard to find anyone who would argue Brady’s standing as the greatest quarterback of all-time,” . “Brady owns just about every significant NFL passing record, including the career marks for passing yards and touchdown passes.” So, where does Mahomes fit in? Let’s find out.

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Among the Best QBs Ever

DeArdo has Joe Montana as the No. 2 best quarterback of all time, which makes sense, because he’s obviously one of the pillars of the sport. “Considered the greatest QB of all-time pre Brady, Montana still has the unofficial title as the best QB of the 20th century,” DeArdo notes. “Montana’s ‘Joe Cool’ nickname was well earned as he led the 49ers on two of his most famous game-winning drives in NFL history.”

He goes through a few more names to get to Mahomes. He names Mahomes the No. 7 best quarterback to ever play in the NFL, noting his early legacy.

“One of just two active players on this list, Mahomes is more than deserving of his top-10 position,” DeArdo notes. “The 29-year-old is already a two-time league and three-time Super Bowl MVP. He has an astonishing 106-27 record as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback that includes a 17-4 postseason mark. Mahomes’ five Super Bowl starts is tied with John Elway for the second-most in history.”

Right behind Mahomes is Aaron Rodgers at No. 8, with DeArdo noting that Rodgers “is responsible for several of the most statistically insane QB seasons ever, including his fourth and final MVP season (in 2020) that saw him complete 70.7% of his throws with 48 touchdowns against just five interceptions.”

What’s cool for Mahomes is that there aren’t any other active quarterbacks on the roster. For example, even Russell Wilson, who won a Super Bowl and is currently playing, doesn’t make the tally.

Patrick Mahomes on Andy Reid

Mahomes recently chatted with T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert on Sidekicks Conversations and praised Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, which he should.

“It starts with Coach Reid,” Mahomes said. “It starts with the organization that we’re in, and he has a standard that every single day you’re coming there to get better or get worse. And I think we hold each other to that standard.”

He added, “There’s a belief, whenever you start winning, whenever you start having success, you believe in each other.

And I think that’s something that’s extremely important, is that we have a belief in each other that we’re going to find a way to win, no matter how the game is going, the outcome will always be in our favor.”
