No. 4: Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott
It’s hard to believe that Prescott is already entering his 10th NFL season. A fourth-round selection by the Cowboys in 2016, he was thrust into the starting QB role as a rookie when Tony Romo and Kellen Moore suffered significant injuries.
Prescott took the bull by the horns and never let go. He started every game for Dallas throughout his first four seasons, finishing .500 or better each year. The Cowboys have never had a losing record when Prescott has played a full season.
Prescott is a three-time Pro Bowler, a Second-Team All-Pro, the 2016 Offensive Rookie of the Year, and the 2022 Walter Payton Man of the Year. As long as he stays healthy, he should pass Romo for the most passing yards in Cowboys’ history, trailing him by just 2,746.
Prescott could also set the record for most touchdown passes in team history, needing 36 to pass Romo. Short of winning the MVP, he has done it all when it comes to the regular season. Unfortunately, the deeper he gets into his career, the louder the criticisms have become about his lack of postseason success.
Prescott carries a 2-5 playoff record, and has never made it past the divisional round. While the 1,962 passing yards and 14 TDs he has recorded in the postseason are really solid, he has also thrown seven interceptions, four of which came during his last two losses.
There’s still time for Prescott to change his playoff narrative, but it’s possible he has more years behind him in the NFL than in front. His 2024 season was cut short after eight games due to a hamstring injury which required surgery. In addition to one of the best wide receivers in the league, CeeDee Lamb, Dallas added WR George Pickens and running back Javonte Williams to its offense for Prescott to work with in 2025.
The Cowboys will host the Chiefs in Week 13 on Thanksgiving Day. This will be Kansas City’s first appearance on Thanksgiving since 2006 when it beat the Denver Broncos 19-10. Prescott owns a 1-1 record against the Chiefs in his career, beating them at home in 2017 and losing to them in K.C. in 2021.
