Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided an update on Max Muncy after he left Wednesday’s game with a scary knee injury.
The Dodgers said Muncy left the game with “left knee pain,” but Roberts had a more substantial update after the game.
Roberts said the initial tests have come back promising, leading the team to be optimistic he didn’t suffer a serious injury.
“A lot of the tests that they did right now, we feel optimistic,” Roberts said. “And I think that our hope is that it’s a sprain. So obviously, for the next few days, I’m sure he’ll probably be down, but the MRI (Thursday) will show more.”
Muncy’s knee bent backwards in an awkward position, and he immediately went to the ground in pain. The SportsNet LA broadcast elected not to show any replays.
Muncy has enjoyed an incredible midseason turnaround after being one of the biggest disappointments for the first month of the season.
On the year, Muncy is slashing .250/.375/.457 with 13 home runs, 55 RBIs and an OPS of .832. He was hitting as low as .167 in late April, and didn’t hit his first home run of the season until April 30.
