Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has detailed what role the Super Bowl loss played in his career decision.
Entering the Super Bowl last season, many were of the thought that if the Kansas City Chiefs had slayed the Philadelphia Eagles and claimed the historic three-peat, tight end Travis Kelce would retire.
Of course, we know that Kelce is returning for a 13th NFL season in 2025 after the 40-22 blowout, with the fire still burning as bright as ever.
But what if the Chiefs had won, would Kelce have pulled the pin on his illustrious career?
He discussed this on the Bussin’ With The Boys Podcast recently.
“It might of made me think about it a little bit more,” Kelce said. “I just had a sour taste in my mouth immediately, and like, man, this cannot be the last game, you know.”
“I still feel like I can do it. And I kind of wanted to give myself that full focus when I kind of looked at the year of review and how I got ready for the year and things like that.”
So even if the Chiefs did claim the three-peat, Travis might still have come back for another year.
But now we can look forward to seeing No. 87 running out and trying to get that sour taste out of his mouth after the Super Bowl loss, plus, Travis might have a little bit to prove after he had his worst statistical season since his rookie year.
There are a few things at play in 2025, and Kelce was even tight-lipped about playing in 2026, with his focus purely on this upcoming year. He will then assess the situation in 12 months’ time.
After so much talk of Kelce ending his illustrious career, we might still have a couple of seasons left of Travis as a Chief.
