Chiefs Urged To Sign ‘Chain-Moving’ Free Agent As Patrick Mahomes’ 66-TD Weapon

Cựu cầu thủ bóng bầu dục Keenan Allen (13) của Chicago Bears.
The Kansas City Chiefs already have a solid receiving group, but could they add one more weapon for Patrick Mahomes?

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ offense over the past couple of seasons has struggled to be the high-flying, entertaining unit we had become accustomed to early in Patrick Mahomes’ career, and especially last season, it was rather dull.

Yes, there were reasons for that with Marquise Brown, a big-name free agent injured in preseason and not seeing the field until Week 16, plus Rashee Rice saw his season end in Week 4 due to a knee injury.

Now, all are back and healthy, to go along with  Xavier Worthy, Travis Kelce, and Juju Smith-Schuster, but there is one thing missing.

All of Kansas City’s weapons are on the smaller side and speed burners – none are big, physical receivers who can win one-on-ones due to their size. That brings us to one receiver who the Chiefs could look at if they so choose – Keenan Allen.

“Allen caught 70 passes in Chicago, with seven touchdowns,” ESPN wrote. “He isn’t as dynamic of a mover at this late stage of his career, but the veteran is a crafty route runner who can make himself available to the quarterback. He fits as a chain-moving No. 3 receiver, which is the role he played for the Bears last season.”

Could the Chiefs do with a receiver of Allen’s physical stature? Sure.

Still a free agent and coming off a year with the Chicago Bears that saw him total 744 yards and seven touchdowns, so he’s still productive.

But he would give Mahomes a receiver who would have a physical matchup advantage with just about any defender in football, due to his size, and we know Patrick can put the ball in the exact right spot.

Allen is a free agent, and teams are likely waiting to see what they have in training camp before making any moves.

Kansas City’s receiver room appears to be set, but they are all of the same type of player. Allen breaks that and would give Mahomes a weapon to whom he can go in times of need and be fairly comfortable throwing it up, and allowing Allen to go get it.

It’s just a thought, and we think Allen would prefer a move back to Los Angeles, but it wouldn’t be the worst idea for the Chiefs to pick up the phone.
