Unbelievable!! Chiefs Predicted to Part With Player With Special Patrick Mahomes Ties

The Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs are still tweaking their lineup as the offseason continues, and sometimes, that means making difficult decisions that may, or may not, help in the long run. Of course, the goal is always to have the best team possible going into the new season, but some of these choices could go either way.

Now, the Chiefs may have one of those tough decisions on their hands. During the offseason, the team has made some moves that could free them up to let go of a once-promising third-round draft pick.

Wanya Morris #64 and Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs celebrate with Joe Thuney #62 and Travis Kelce #87.

Kansas City Chiefs Could Let Go of Once-Promising Player

The Kansas Chiefs inked Jaylon Moore to a two-year deal in free agency last spring, and they also used a first-round draft selection to snag Josh Simmons in the 2025 NFL draft.

So, the tackle depth chart is looking packed, plus they have Jawaan Taylor, so yes, it’s getting crowded.

In a June 21 feature for Bleacher Report, Kristopher Knox brings up offensive lineman Wanya Morris as a possible Chiefs player on the trade block, and Morris’ name has shown up on the trade block before.

Morris has a special tie with Patrick Mahomes, in that he scored his first career touchdown on a pass from Mahomes in September 2024 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

On the idea of Morris being traded away, Matt Conner notes in a June 26 article for Arrowhead Addict that there are pros and cons for parting with Morris.

As for the pros, Conner says that “it’s fair to surmise that Morris’s days as a swing tackle could be numbered if Taylor holds onto his role.

That leaves Moore and Simmons to battle things out as blindside protector, with the loser slotting in as OT3 on the depth chart.”

He adds that having second-year tackle Ethan Driskel and undrafted rookie Esa Pole “could allow the Chiefs to consider such a move.”

The Case for Keeping This Chiefs Player

So, why would the Chiefs need to hold onto Morris? The downside is that Kansas City has “too many variables in play to trade Morris.

It’s not as if offensive tackle is a position of luxury with too much of a sure thing at the bookends,” Conner notes.

He adds that “the Chiefs learned firsthand in 2024 that they can’t have enough depth,” which is a reality. As he notes, “Suamataia wasn’t ready. Morris was injured. Then D.J. Humphries was hurt as well.”

With players getting injured right and left in the NFL, there’s a good chance the Chiefs will really have to rely on Morris next season, even if they think they’re all set without him. Andy Reid likely has that on his mind, too.

Frankly, the Kansas City Chiefs would be better off keeping Morris in their lineup.

Even if they have a lot of tackles, one can never be too careful, and it’s likely that any trade wouldn’t do them much good with what they would get in return, anyway. Morris is young and still a budding and developing player, so it would be foolish to trade him away just in time for him to blossom somewhere else. He could become a star in the years to come.
