BREAKING NEWS: Manchester United Close In on Bryan Mbeumo as Talks with Brentford Advance

Manchester United are moving steadily towards securing the services of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford after lodging an improved offer. While significant progress has been made, a few aspects of the deal still need to be finalized before anything is confirmed.

Mbeumo has emerged as a key target for United, who see him as an ideal fit for one of the attacking midfield roles alongside recent signing Matheus Cunha. His impressive performances last season have made him one of the most in-demand forwards in the Premier League. The Cameroonian international scored 20 league goals for Brentford during the 2024/25 season—only Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, and Alexander Isak managed more. This marked the first time he reached double digits in a top-flight campaign.

Before his Premier League success, Mbeumo scored 11 times for Troyes in France’s Ligue 2 back in 2018/19 and hit 16 goals during Brentford’s 2019/20 season in the Championship. Since joining the Premier League, he has consistently contributed with eight, nine, and nine goals across all competitions in his first three seasons.

United’s initial bid of around £55 million was turned down, as Brentford are reportedly holding out for a package close to the £62.5 million they received for Matheus Cunha. In response, United submitted a second offer exceeding £60 million, including £55 million up front and £5 million in potential add-ons.

Brentford, while edging closer to accepting the deal, are still negotiating for clearer and more achievable performance-based bonuses. They hope to secure a package that guarantees more reliable returns rather than uncertain conditional payments. Although United lead the race for Mbeumo, Brentford haven’t ruled out considering offers from other interested clubs to spark a bidding war.

If completed, the transfer would set a new record sale for Brentford, surpassing the £40 million fee received from Al-Ahli for Ivan Toney. Mbeumo is said to have a strong desire to join Manchester United and has already turned down interest from other Premier League clubs like Tottenham and Newcastle. Personal terms are believed to be in place, with wages reportedly around £250,000 per week.

United are keen to wrap up the deal before the start of pre-season on July 7, aiming to integrate Mbeumo quickly into a revamped attack under new tactical plans. His style of play—marked by pace, pressing, and technical link-up—makes him a suitable addition to a system likely to rely on inside forwards or wide creators.

With negotiations ongoing, the primary hurdle now lies in finalizing the structure of the payment and bonuses. United are pushing hard to get it done, and Brentford appear open to compromise—bringing the deal tantalizingly close to completion.
