Kansas City Chiefs make roster moves after mandatory minicamp to shake up key offensive positions before training camp

The Kansas City Chiefs have made several moves to refresh their 90-man offseason roster following mandatory minicamp and ahead of their 2025 training camp session.

We knew yesterday that the Chiefs added two players who were among the four tryout players hosted at mandatory minicamp, both of whom were familiar faces for Kansas City. The team signed TE Geor’Quarius Spivey, a recent UFL player with the Houston Roughnecks who was with Kansas City during training camp in 2024. They also signed OL Joey Lombard, who was also among the 60 players the team hosted for tryouts at rookie minicamp this year.

The corresponding roster moves to make room for these two players were not revealed on Thursday because of the league office taking the day off for a federal holiday. However, we now know the moves that were made to make room for both Spivey and Lombard.

Chiefs waive TE Kevin Foelsch, release OG Tremayne Anchrum Jr.

According to the league personnel notice for June 20, the Chiefs have waived TE Kevin Foelsch and released OG Tremayne Anchrum Jr. following mandatory minicamp. Anchrum Jr. is a fifth-year NFL veteran who has been with Kansas City for about a month, while Foelsch only recently joined the team ahead of their three-day mandatory minicamp.

My take on these moves and the corresponding moves: Lombard provides more positional flexibility and upside given his size compared to Anchrum Jr., while Spivey gives the Chiefs someone who is familiar with the system to eat snaps while guys like Wiley, Briningstool, and Watson recover from injury.

While the deal to sign Lombard was listed on the June 20 personnel notice, the move for Spivey has not yet been officially processed by the league. Look for that move to potentially come sometime next week.
