PHILADELPHIA – Prince George native Jared Young was part of a record tying effort in Major League Baseball Saturday (June 21).

The 29-year-old utility player – who went to Prince George Secondary School – hit a solo home run as the New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 11-4 to snap a season-high seven-game losing streak.

Young’s home run – his third of the season – off Phillies reliever Michael Mercado, made it an 8-4 ball game in the top of the eighth inning. His 441 foot shot was one of seven solo home runs hit by the Mets, which tied a Major League record.
