Should the Kansas City Chiefs try to trade for RB Breece Hall?

The offseason drama surrounding the New York Jets and running back Breece Hall has quieted a bit in recent days, but the effects will likely linger into the regular season — particularly if the Jets struggle early.

NFL insider Josina Anderson mentioned that there was a possibility Hall could be traded back in April ahead of the NFL Draft, and in a June 15 article, ESPN’s Rich Cimini posited that Hall “will be a prime candidate to be dealt” at the midseason trade deadline should the Jets fall out of contention.

Meanwhile, over in Kansas City, Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, Elijah Mitchell and Brashard Smith currently round out the Chiefs‘ RBs room, with the likes of Elijah Young and Keaontay Ingram also competing for a roster spot.

With Pacheco just returning from injury and Hunt aging, Kansas City might benefit from bringing Hall in to inject more competition while giving quarterback Patrick Mahomes another playmaker out of the backfield. If the Jets are willing to move on from Hall, we think the Chiefs should be a top trade partner. Here’s why.

A Look Back at Hall’s 3 Years in the NFL

Hall, drafted by the Jets in the second round (36th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft, was the top running back off the board that year. As a rookie, he showed flashes, averaging an impressive 5.8 yards per carry and finishing with 463 yards and four touchdowns in just seven games before suffering a season-ending ACL and meniscus injury Week 7.

Healthy in 2023, Hall resumed his workhorse role, playing a full season. Across 17 games, he had 223 carries for 994 yards (4.5 YPC) and five TDs, also hauling in 76 passes for 591 yards and four receiving scores. That’s 1,585 total yards from scrimmage.

The 2024 campaign saw Hall produce a solid but unspectacular 876 yards on 209 carries, with five rushing TDs. He also had 57 receptions for 483 yards and three more TDs. Across three seasons, his career totals stand at 512 carries for 2,333 rushing yards, 14 rushing and eight receiving touchdowns, with over 1,200 receiving yards.

The question now is whether a change of scenery could reignite the elite player glimpsed early in his career.

Chiefs Trade Proposal Sends 4th Rounder to Jets for RB Breece Hall

In New York, Hall has established himself as a dual-threat back capable of impacting both the passing and ground games. But there’s a new regime in town, and despite hearing words of reassurance from new head coach Aaron Glenn, Hall could still be dealt.

Plus, with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis in the mix, Hall could find himself as the odd man out. If that’s the case, the Chiefs should pounce. So, what might his trade value be?

“I don’t think anybody would give anything other than a day three pick up for Hall, who has struggled with injury of late and would need a contract soon,” Broncos insider Benjamin Allbright wrote on X.

That makes sense. Considering his injury history coupled with his potential, here’s our trade proposal:

  • New York Jets receive: 2026 fifth-round pick
  • Kansas City Chiefs receive: RB Breece Hall, conditional 2026 7th-round pick (if Hall plays fewer than 8 games)

There’s no doubt adding Hall would give a boost to KC’s offense, especially in third-down and open-field situations where the current rotation has lacked juice. The Chiefs and Jets have done business together before, very recently. In October of 2023, the Jets sent Mecole Hardman to Kansas City, and the two squads had multiple dealings in 2021, as well.

Could another move be on the horizon? It might be worth a call for GM Brett Veach.
