Kansas City Chiefs fans are well-aware that Patrick Mahomes is a co-owner of the Kansas City Current, KC’s NWSL team. Mahomes makes sure that he and his wife Brittany attend as many games as possible but he also makes sure that his fellow Chiefs teammates attend the games and rep the club as well.
For the past two years, the Chiefs rookies have attended at least one Current game and it sure seems like Omarr Norman-Lott will be at more than just the one. The second-round rookie was mic’ed up while attending last weekend’s Current game and looked to be having an absolute ball at CPKC Stadium.
Then again, it wasn’t hard to get into last weekend’s match, which ended up as a 4-2 Current victory, keeping them at the top of the NWSL table. The Current went up 1-0 not even two minutes into the match. Norman-Lott was into it even before the goal (an own goal by Louisville, aided by Current star forwards Michelle Cooper and Temwa Chawinga), yelling, “Coop’s out ahead! Coop’s out ahead! Six in there!” and then screaming his head off when the ball went into the net.
“I feel it. The vibes are immense,” Norman-Lott said while mic’ed up and he’s not wrong. Anyone who has been to a Current game can relate to that statement wholeheartedly.
Omarr Norman-Lott might be KC Current’s new No. 1 fan after this game
The mic’ed up clip also has a great moment where Norman-Lott acknowledges how good Chawinga is (she was the league MVP and Golden Boot leader a season ago after scoring 20 goals). He also joined in on the “COOOOOP” chants for Cooper and was livid when a defender knocked her down telling Louisville to “Get that **** outta here!”
The Current’s second goal of the match looked to be offsides on Cooper, which Norman-Lott was telling his teammates but after she buried the goal and no flags went up, he was all smiles just like the rest of the crowd at CPKC Stadium. “Michelle Cooper is a force to be reckoned with on this soccer field,” the rookie said and no one would disagree with that.
Norman-Lott also learned a thing or two while attending the match, learning that a player hitting the ball with their head “is called a header, not a headbutt.” Third-round rookie Ashton Gillotte was in a tough spot since the Current were playing Racing Louisville and he played college at Louisville but even he was all onboard with the Current.
The best statement from the Chiefs rookie defensive lineman though? “Kansas City supporters are very loyal”
That they are, Omarr. That they are.
