When the 2025 NFL Draft concluded, there were some picks made by the Kansas City Chiefs that were heavily applauded and others that flew under the radar a bit.
The Chiefs’ second-round selection of Omarr Norman-Lott fell into the latter category.
People thought that the Chiefs reached on the Tennessee product but maybe — just maybe — he fills the exact purpose that K.C. needs him for and no one is really discussing it.
While Chris Jones is still playing at an elite level, the reality of the situation is that he’s entering his age-31 season and won’t be his usual self for much longer.
Norman-Lott can be the Jones replacement the Chiefs will be searching for and he’ll be under the same roof.
Not only can he eventually fill in for Jones when he starts to decline but until that happens, he can learn from him directly.
Omarr Norman-Lott gives Chiefs future Chris Jones replacement
It should probably be said that Jones is going to be an incredibly hard player to replace given what he’s provided for this team during their dynastic run.
He’s been that guy in the postseason who can absolutely wreck things for the opposition and directly helped the Chiefs win titles. That’s not easy to replace.
That being said, with Jones entering his age-31 season, Norman-Lott can learn from him. When his time comes to step into the starting role, hopefully he can take the things he’s learned from Jones and apply them to his own game.
People won’t be giving the Norman-Lott pick much thought because he’s not going to be an immediate starter. The hope is that when he does play as a rookie, he looks the part of an eventual game-wrecker.
It’s okay if this move has flown under the radar for now because hopefully, in the future, it looks like a pure genius move for Kansas City…
