Boston Red Sox rookie Hunter Dobbins attracted the attention of a few New York City tabloids last week after making comments critical of the Yankees organization.

Declaring that ‘if the Yankees were the last team to give [him] a contract, [he’d] retire,” Dobbins shook off the negative attention gained from his tongue slip and looked sharp in his five innings of work in the Bronx last weekend.

Facing the Yankees for his second time in a week, Dobbins was even better during his five innings of work and earning his fourth win of the season on Saturday.

With his recent comments still generating plenty of blurbs and commentary across the media landscape, Dobbins took the mound and put together a scoreless effort, allowing two hits and one walk, while striking out five on 82 pitches.

Despite some early traffic on the base paths due to a fielding error from Kristian Campbell, Dobbins bounced back to get Aaron Judge to strikeout swinging on a 80.9 mph curveball. Two pitches later, he got Ben Rice to ground out into a double play to end the inning.

Dobbins never found himself in trouble during the remainder of his start, allowing only a single and a walk to Anthony Volpe, and striking out Judge for a second time before being lifted for Luis Guerrero to begin the sixth inning.

The Yankees made it interesting in the ninth inning when Paul Goldschmidt led off with a double, and later came around to score on a Volpe ground out to cut the Boston lead to 4-3. Two batters later, Greg Weissert got Austin Wells to fly out to earn his second save and give the Red Sox a series victory.
