Liverpool have been told it would take an offer of £75-80million to sign Anthony Gordon this summer amid renewed interest in his services

Liverpool have been told it would take an offer of £75-80million to sign Anthony Gordon this summer amid renewed interest in his services.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the Reds’ efforts to sign the 24-year-old.

Chelsea ‘LOOPHOLE’: PSR Is ‘Dead’ After Premier League ‘Screw Up’

Newcastle remain determined to keep hold of their star man, and it would take a “huge” fee to persuade them to sell while the deal has been described as “difficult”.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 22 May that Gordon is still on Arne Slot’s radar as Liverpool are prepared to reignite their interest.

Meanwhile, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle could accept offers for Gordon to boost their finances.

However, sources say the Magpies’ qualification for the Champions League has strengthened their PSR situation and they will be under no pressure to sell their key players.

More recently, Luis Diaz has been linked with a move away from Anfield, and there is a growing belief that the England international is the top target to replace him if he is sold.

O’Rourke explained that the Reds have kept a close eye on the winger’s performances this season and could make a move if the opportunity arrives.

“It’s a move that would be dependent on a lot of factors,” he told Football Insider.

“If Luis Diaz was to leave Liverpool, whether it’s to Barcelona, the Saudi Pro League or somewhere else, they will be in the market for a left-winger.

“Anthony Gordon came very close to joining Liverpool last summer when Newcastle were being forced to sell some players because of PSR regulations.

“Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Gordon and remain interested in him.

“Newcastle, ideally, do not want to lose him as he’s a key man in Eddie Howe’s side.

“He signed a long-term deal last October after all that speculation over his future, so to convince Newcastle to sell you’d be looking at £75-80million.

“It looks a difficult deal to do, it will take a huge fee to persuade them to sell.

“With Champions League football, their PSR situation is looking a lot healthier and they’re under no real pressure to sell their prized assets.”

Rafael Leao update emerges at Anfield

Gordon is not the only left-sided winger who has been linked with a move to Anfield this summer, amid speculation surrounding AC Milan star Rafael Leao.

Brown told Football Insider on 10 June that Liverpool scouts have been tracking Leao as a result of the uncertainty about Diaz’s future.

The 26-year-old is a target for a number of Premier League clubs amid growing speculation that he could be set to leave Milan for “big money” this summer.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 18 May that Arsenal are interested in signing Leao and will make a move if Gabriel Martinelli is sold during the transfer window.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin David

‘Calvert-Lewin is worth £15m more than Newcastle United have offered’

Fri 13 June 2025 21:00, UK

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be set to quit Everton and join a new club as “they can’t compete” for his signature.

The 28-year-old is out of contract with the Merseyside giants on 30 June, but the club revealed talks are still ongoing with his representatives.

Football Insider revealed on 6 June Everton are resigned to losing Calvert-Lewin after he’s rejected multiple new contract offers.

The forward has spent the past nine years at Goodison Park, but he’s faced various injury issues in recent years.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it makes sense for Everton to try and negotiate a new deal with Calvert-Lewin as he’s worth up to £40million when he’s on form.

The 11-cap England international scored just three league goals in the 2024-25 campaign, taking his Premier League tally to 57 in 239 appearances.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could agree deal ‘all of a sudden’

Borson insisted Everton will not be able to compete with any interested clubs for Calvert-Lewin as they will offer him more money due to him being available for free.

He told Football Insider: “I think it makes sense for Everton to continue negotiating because he’s in the open market.

“Even with his injury record, you would think he would have had a value.

“I think last season they talked about him potentially being sold to Newcastle for something like £25million, so that’s the sort of value that the player has, and that was with one year left of his contract.

“He is a player that on form probably has a market value of £40million, something like that. Essentially, Everton are in a position where another club that’s speaking to him, they’re able to get him effectively on a free transfer with no fee.

“Therefore, they can look at what the overall package is worth. It just seems unlikely that Everton are going to be able to compete with a third party.

“For example, you would imagine one of the promoted teams might be saying, ‘Well, here’s an opportunity to get this player without a fee, so we can wrap up the £10-20million that we were prepared to pay for a striker into the bundle of his wages’.

“All of a sudden, Calvert-Lewin’s got a good deal and a team in probably the bottom half of the table has got a new player on a free transfer.”

Everton and Newcastle frontrunners in Jack Grealish race

David Moyes is looking to improve his squad this summer after steering Everton away from relegation trouble and securing a 13th-place finish in the Premier League table.

Football Insider revealed on 11 June Everton and Newcastle United are leading the race to sign Jack Grealish as he looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium.

Sources say a loan deal, with Manchester City covering a portion of the winger’s wages, is the “most likely” outcome.

The 29-year-old is keen to feature regularly at a new club ahead of the World Cup in North America next year.
