Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid likes the progress one rookie is making this offseason.

OTAs are now completed for the Kansas City Chiefs, and it has been the first time the coaching staff has been able to get a good gauge on injured rookie tackle Josh Simmons.

Having been sidelined with a patellar injury that ended his college season early, the rookie has been a slow burn so far this offseason, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been making the coaching staff take notice.

Granted, he can only do so much, but it appears that Simmons is doing far more than initially expected, much to the delight of head coach Andy Reid.

“He’s doing a nice job,” Reid said of Simmons. “We weren’t sure how much we were going to be able to get out of him, but he looks strong. He’s been jumping in and taking the team reps now. He was just doing the individual stuff before, and you can definitely see the talent. He’s got to keep learning and learning the stuff that Andy’s [Heck, offensive line coach] teaching him and fundamentally, technique-wise, but he sure has a good attitude about it.”

That’s positive for training camp.

Given that Simmons wasn’t able to do much in the early portion of the offseason program, he is now slowly starting to get his feet underneath him in preparation for training camp.

Granted, the coaching staff will play it slow to avoid any setbacks, but right now, Reid appears to be happy with how Simmons’ offseason arrow is trending.

And that arrow, my friends, is well and truly pointing up.
