OH REALLY!! Los Angeles Dodgers insider floats bold idea team could add another Cy Young Award winner before trade deadline

The Los Angeles Dodgers are sure to look at potential trade upgrades before the deadline next month. And one team reporter believes 2022 National League Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara could be a potential target.

“It’s impossible to rule out the Dodgers if the opportunity presents itself. They’ll have the ammunition to get most deals done,” The Athletic’s Dodgers beat writer Fabian Ardaya wrote this week. “Perhaps they are the team that thinks it can get Sandy Alcantara right after struggling in his return from Tommy John surgery.

“The Dodgers tried to pry Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers last year before swinging a deal with them for Jack Flaherty.”

LA is having another good season in 2025. However, their pitching staff has been hammered by an outbreak of injuries. Fifteen pitchers, including major offseason additions Blake Snell, Kirby Yates, and Tanner Scott, have also missed notable amounts of time due to injuries.

That is why it is not a surprise that the club has been linked to potential trades for impact arms this summer.

The Miami Marlins star has been linked to trade rumors over the last few seasons. Even after missing all of 2024 due to Tommy John surgery.

In his first year back, he has struggled mightily. He owns a ghastly 7.14 ERA and 1.429 WHIP heading into the weekend. However, many evaluators around the game believe he will eventually return to elite form as the season progresses.

Because of his awful start, the asking price for the two-time All-Star may have dipped a bit. However, as Ardaya mentioned, the Dodgers have the minor league chips to make any trade they want. If LA were able to acquire Sandy Alcantara, he would join fellow Cy Young winners Clayton Kershaw and Blake Snell.

However, Ardaya added, “Dodgers are bullish on what they have coming back” to the starting rotation.

And they are not desperate to make big moves because they are confident Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani will return to the rotation in the second half.
