Arsenal will reportedly ‘look at’ signing Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers, as per transfer expert Mike Brown.
After moving to Villa Park midway through the 2023/24 campaign, the 22-year-old helped Unai Emery’s side qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four.
While he fell short of guiding his team to the same achievement the following season, he still impressed with his productivity, scoring 14 goals and registering 13 assists in 54 appearances in all competitions.
On Football Insider, Brown says that Aston Villa have found themselves in financial difficulties, so they might have to sell players to balance the books. Arsenal are going to keep an eye on this situation and will ‘look at’ signing Rogers.
The Gunners want an energetic player like Rogers, who can drive with the ball, as they currently lack many players of this type, other than Declan Rice.
However, the former scout also raises the question as to whether Rogers would be the right fit for Mikel Arteta’s side, as he is a CAM by trait and can also provide cover on the left flank, but isn’t a specialist wide forward.
Rogers to Arsenal
Arsenal already have enough quality in their midfield, so he might find it difficult to play in midfield. While considering he isn’t a specialist winger, he might not be the right option for Arteta’s side to bolster the left flank.
Brown said:
“I hear Aston Villa might have to sell some players. Their financial situation means they might have to shift a few, so I have no doubt clubs like Arsenal are going to be keeping an eye on that. Morgan Rogers has done really well since he moved to Villa.
“He’s been impressive there and even got himself into the England squad. Arsenal want to sign a player who does what he does, with his energy and willingness to drive with the ball at his feet.
“He’s certainly one they’ll be having a look at and they won’t be the only ones, because if a player like him becomes available it will interest all of the top clubs. But I just think there are a few question marks about what his role would be.”
Rogers has been the undisputed starter for Aston Villa in recent times, so if they are forced to cash-in on him, they wouldn’t want to let him leave for cheap. His existing deal will run until 2030 and is valued at around £47m by Transfermarkt, so the Villans are in a strong position to demand a big fee for him.
Rogers is a top-class, versatile forward and possesses high potential, so he would be a great coup for the North London club should they eventually manage to secure his service this summer.
