Chiefs' Rashee Rice Suffers Knee Injury After Patrick Mahomes Hit

Rashee Rice is preparing for his third season in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs‘ wide receiver played in 16 games as a rookie but was limited to just four appearances last season. Despite the reduced action, he’s started all 20 games of his NFL career so far.

Rice joined the Chiefs as a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft after a four-year college career at SMU. He made an immediate impact, helping Kansas City win Super Bowl LVIII in his first season.

After recording 103 receptions and nine touchdowns to start his pro career, Rice seems to be enjoying himself during the offseason. On Thursday, he posted a lighthearted video on Instagram of himself taking a snap at quarterback, jokingly claiming to be mentoring the Chiefs’ star signal caller, Patrick Mahomes.

“Y’all check out ya boy @patrickmahomes learning from another GREAT! QB,” Rice wrote.

The video, shared from the team’s OTA session at the Truman Sports Complex, sparked plenty of laughs among fans and teammates. Rice’s presence at team activities is notable as he continues to deal with the fallout from legal issues this offseason. While he plans to play when the 2025 season begins, many expect him to face a multi-game suspension.

Kansas City’s receiving corps is shaping up with Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy expected to play major roles alongside Rice. Other names in the mix include JuJu Smith-Schuster, Jalen Royals and Skyy Moore.

As for the backup quarterback battle, veteran Gardner Minshew currently holds the edge over Bailey Zappe heading into training camp. The Chiefs, of course, are hoping that neither backup sees much playing time, which would mean a healthy season for Mahomes.
