Manchester United have officially completed their second transfer of the summer, continuing a major squad overhaul under the guidance of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS. While the club hasn’t named the player in this update, this exit is part of a broader strategy aimed at reshaping the team ahead of the new season. Several players, including Altay Bayindir, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Marcus Rashford, are reportedly on the chopping block, with the club open to offers as they work to build a squad more suited to new manager Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 system.
The need for a squad shake-up comes after a disappointing campaign in the Premier League, where United risked finishing as low as 17th. However, there’s still a glimmer of hope for redemption, as they’re set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final. A victory would not only secure a trophy and a Champions League spot but also bring in a significant financial boost, helping the club gear up for next season.
Despite the result of the final, reports indicate United will have at least £100 million to invest in new signings. That figure could rise to around £200 million if the club manages to sell key players like Rashford, Sancho, and Antony. However, some insiders believe this projection is overly optimistic. For instance, Chelsea might opt to pay a £5 million fee to terminate Sancho’s loan deal instead of committing to a permanent £25 million move. Meanwhile, Aston Villa’s interest in Rashford is far from certain.
Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has emerged as United’s top target, with the club optimistic that Amorim can handle the player’s fiery temperament. Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is another name on their list, especially following Ipswich’s relegation, which has reportedly made the striker available for around £30 million. In addition to strengthening the attack, United are also looking to bring in reinforcements at both wing-back positions, as well as a new goalkeeper to provide competition for Andre Onana. This likely spells the end for Bayindir’s time at Old Trafford.
The summer recruitment drive will be spearheaded by technical director Jason Wilcox, whose work has reportedly impressed INEOS leadership. As a result, there are currently no plans to bring in a director of football. The club may also explore generating funds through the sale of academy products like Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, although they are expected to part ways with either only if a substantial offer comes in. Of the two, Garnacho is viewed as the more likely to be sold, although United would prefer to keep both.
