A new report claims both the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets will have Milwaukee Bucks veteran Brook Lopez on their free agent wishlist this summer.
The center spot is expected to be a top priority for the Lakers this summer. It was a position they tried to improve during the season, and it only became an even bigger problem when they moved big man Anthony Davis in the Luka Doncic trade.
The club has been linked to impending free agent Brook Lopez recently. And NBA insider Jake Fischer added fuel to those rumors on Wednesday.
“The Lakers have long been fans of Lopez, sources say. That doesn’t guarantee they will pursue him again. But the Lakers are indeed expected to be a player in the center market this summer,” Fischer wrote in a new post on the Stein Line.
All indications are the Bucks will let the 37-year-old walk this summer. The one-time All-Star played one season in LA seven years ago. While the team would love a younger option that can crash the rim, Lopez is still an upgrade at center. Furthermore, with two talented ball handlers in Lebron James and Luka Doncic, a big that can stretch the floor has value for the Lakers.
Los Angeles Lakers to get competition from Houston Rockets for Brook Lopez?

However, the Lakers aren’t the only playoff contender that will have eyes for the 17-year NBA veteran this offseason.
“Sources say that Houston, furthermore, would once again have interest in signing Lopez if the Rockets are unable to retain Steven Adams,” Fischer also reported.
The Rockets tried to sign Lopez in free agency last year. However, he decided to return to Milwaukee in the hopes of making another run at a championship.
While Adams is a better defender and rebounder, Lopez would still bring value to the Rockets’ offense. Plus, he would be a nice veteran addition for a mostly young roster next season.
